Partnerships
Conservation Collier
In December of 2007, Conservation Collier, in cooperation with CREW Land & Water Trust, closed on the 367-acre Starnes Property. This property is an important piece of the puzzle in this portion of the CREW lands. Rare or threatened animals currently living on the property include the Florida Panther, Gopher Tortoises, and Crested Caracaras. In the future Conservation Collier plans to develop a series of trails that may eventually be connected to CREW's new Cypress Dome Trails.
Boy Scouts of America
CREW has recently formed a long term partnership with an Order of the Arrow chapter of the Boy Scouts of America from the Alligator District in Naples. These dedicated, hardworking, and well led scouts have already assisted with the preparation of the new Cypress Dome Trails. CREW will host the Alligator District's Camporee in January 2009. 200-300 scouts and their families are expected to attend a weekend of camping with a pirate theme! In addition to these short term events, one eagle scout project is already being planned with many more to come.
Wings of Hope
Ricky Pires and FGCU's Wings of Hope program continues to be a strong partner bringing hundreds of Lee and Collier County school children as well as their teachers and parents to CREW's Marsh Trails to be Panther Biologists for a day. The students learn orienteering, plant identification, and observational skills as the experience the habitat of the Florida Panther up close. An integral part of this Panther Posse program involves FGCU students from Environmental Humanities classes who come to the trails to teach the younger students. The teachers and chaperones as well as the FGCU students are introduced to CREW and the importance of the preservation of the watershed.
